Urgent reminder! South Korea enforces the new regulations of Type-C interface, involving 13 types of products such as mobile phones and tablets

On November 5, 2025, the Ministry of Science, Technology, Information and Communication (MSIT) of Korea officially issued AnnouncementNo. 2025-56, which will force new mobile and smart devices sold in the Korean market to use USB Type-C interface for wired charging and data transmission.

Applicable product range

According to the Technical Standard on Charging and Data Transmission of Broadcasting Communication Equipment such as Mobile Terminals and Intelligent Devices, from November 5, 2026 (that is, one year after the issuance of the notice), the following thirteen categories of new consumer electronic devices applying for KC certification must be equipped with USB Type-C interface plugs that meet the standard specifications, and the USB Type-C interface connectors must also meet the technical specifications of MSIT 2025-56 before they can apply for KC-RF.
